Yes, it certainly can be, but perhaps not for the first time cruiser. Why? First, you are at sea for four or five days with no stops. Second, the Atlantic weather can be bad. Sometimes it’s not really the place to find out if you like cruising. One advantage is you only have to fly one way. Many transatlantic cruisers go to New York - one of the great arrival experiences by sea. You can, of course, combine a transatlantic crossing and take in the Caribbean, South America and even other ports in Europe. One of the main pleasures is the long relaxation. That’s why, in the past, the QE2 and other Cunard liners were popular with the entertainment fraternity. They couldn’t be reached for days on end, and they couldn’t get off the ship! As well as being a method of transport, they had an ‘enforced’ holiday! So, if you decide you’d like to give it a go, try and choose a quiet time of year.
